THe challenge

In maritime and offshore classification operations, surveyors are deployed globally to inspect vessels and offshore units under strict regulatory and commercial constraints. Planners face a significant operational challenge: translating client requests into fully structured assignments—creating primary activities and related sub-activities—while building optimized and coherent surveyor schedules.

This role requires constant adaptation to disruptions such as vessel delays, port changes, urgent demands, or last-minute surveyor unavailability. Each change can have cascading operational impacts, making planning a high-stakes balancing act between compliance, service quality, and efficiency.

what we do

We delivered an agentic planning tool capable of autonomously assigning unaffected sub-activities to qualified surveyors while rigorously respecting a wide range of hard constraints (qualifications, ship windows, availability, geography) and minimizing soft-rule penalties such as workload imbalance, excessive travel, or suboptimal sequencing.

Beyond optimization performance, we deliberately focused on collaborative design principles to ensure planner adoption and trust. The solution provides transparency into decision logic, clear visibility of constraint trade-offs, and interactive validation workflows. By keeping planners in the loop—allowing them to review, adjust, and override proposals—the tool augments human expertise rather than replacing it, fostering confidence and operational acceptance.
